This Sunday’s gospel speaks about something we don’t like. A parable regarding the end of the ages, where the angels will “collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn."

We don’t like talking about hell because we think it’s a future punishment from God, when in fact it is more an invitation for today for purification.

We like antibiotics and chemotherapy to be successful and purify us.

In our school, we are going through the purification of throwing away old junk and getting new supplies for the coming year.

If we want to remodel our home, we have to begin with the demo. Exercise purifies our body by burning fat and building muscle.

We can all agree that all these kinds of purifications are sound and positive. How much more what really matters, that which is more important than your home and your body?

You are good because of the value of your soul.  You are a child of our heavenly Father. But the bad guy has sown some evil seeds in us called concupiscence.

The pain and crosses that you have, are meticulously allowed by God to purify you. Thanks to that pain, you are part of the wheat that becomes the bread, fruit of the earth and work of human hands and it will become for us this Sunday the Bread of Life.

The angels have the mission to separate the weed from the wheat. Your guardian angel is pushing you to be purified now and not later “so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Maybe this past week you sided more with the weed than with the wheat. Hopefully this week we won’t fight our guardian angel that much.
